Local learners in need of sponsorship for Scholar’s Cup

Selected learners from Taxila Secondary School and Northview Christian Academy will fly the Limpopo flag in Barcelona, Spain during the World Scholar's Cup global round.

POLOKWANE – Eight-grader Taxila learner Muando Bongwe, as well as North View Christian Academy learners Gundo Bongwe (Gr 7) and Mosa Rankwe (Gr 7) performed excellent during the World Scholar’s Cup provincial round that was recently held at Mitchell House College.

The trio will be off to Barcelona before 22 July to compete with learners from other schools globally at the World Scholar’s competition, global round, with the aim to make it to the final round which is set to take place at Yale University in the US.

They will compete in debating, mathematics and science, English as well creative writing.

“As a team we managed to obtain gold and silver medals as well as a trophy for outstanding group work performance, social sciences, debate and English and creative writing.

“Apart from the obvious excitement to be travelling abroad, we are proud and promise that we will represent Limpopo well. We must learn how people use their creative thinking to solve every day problems which is what we want to learn from this trip.”

The group, however, needs a sponsorship to travel to Barcelona.

“We need money for travel, accommodation as well as to secure registration for this round, so we are pleading with the community to lend a helping hand and assist us where they can,” explained Muano.

Muano’s mother, Maria Bongwe said she was proud of the learners, and hopes they will make the country proud abroad, “they need our support full on, we are just steps away from departure to Spain but they need sponsorships”.

You can contact her at 082 756 1481 if you can assist.
