Edwel watch dogs nab three suspects

The Edwel management appealed to all members to join the patrols in order to keep the community safe.

POLOKWANE – Two pensioners on patrol were assisted by two women from the Edwel neighbourhood watch to give chase and apprehend two suspects on Monday morning.

Edwel covers the Eduan Park and Welgelegen areas and the management was informed about suspicious activities in an erf at the corner of Dap Naudé and Marcus Street in the morning where two people were seemingly in the process of stealing a swimming pool pump at a vacant property. Edwel notified the police who responded to the scene swiftly to arrest the two suspects on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

The owner of the property thanked each and every Edwel member who assisted with the capture of the suspects.

Police request residents to refrain from giving food to beggars in the area, as this might lead to a serious problem later on. The police explained they receive numerous complaints that when the good Samaritan is not able to provide to the beggar at a later stage, beggars may become aggressive and it is usually the frail and elderly who then fall victim to this situation.

An unknown male was also arrested following Edwel receiving information about the man entering the garage of one of their members. After apprehending the suspect when he fled the scene, they notified the police who again acted swiftly to take the man into custody.

Edwel thanked the police for their swift response in both instances, giving special reference to Col Andre Kotze and the Sector Five Commander.

The Edwel management appealed to all members to join the patrols in order to keep the community safe.
