Activists of the Democratic Alliance (DA) and its women’s network (Dawn) in the province gathered at the Premier’s Office earlier this morning (Thursday) for the first action in an intended series to demand the phasing out of pit toilets in Limpopo.
The handing in of a memorandum at the office of Premier Stan Mathabatha by Dawn Provincial Leader Desiree van der Walt, who led the group of activists armed with placards, followed the death of three-year-old Monono Omari who allegedly died in a pit toilet last Wednesday.
Prior to entering Mowaneng in Polokwane’s central business district, she said they would escalate the matter to Parliament and if necessary, alert the President on it.
