While some consumers in the city have suffered water shortages for the last two days due to unrest at the Olifantspoort plant and were waiting for reservoir levels to rehabilitate, another blow hit service delivery this morning (Thursday) when Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) informed Polokwane Municipality that the Ebenezer plan had to be shut down due to a severe pipe leak.
“Currently supply is received from the Olifantspoort plant only. In the meantime, the municipality will continue with water tankers deployment in all areas affected by water shortages. The Dalmada and Seshego water purification plants are temporarily open for the public,” Communications and Marketing Manager of the municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo informed. According to Mothapo, most of the reservoirs in the city and Seshego are currently at 0% and the restoration of levels will now take even longer. Mothapo urged consumers that receives water to use it for domestic purposes only.
Mothapo confirmed that the municipality is engaging with LNW on a continuous basis and that municipal manager, Dikgape Makobe has requested an urgent meeting with the management of LNW to discuss the recent challenges that left the city without water.
