Taxi boss gunned down in front of Thohoyandou home

The suspect (s) sped off in a Toyota Yaris with a Gauteng registration number

LIMPOPO – The Police in Thohoyandou have launched a massive manhunt for the suspects involved in the murder of a 65-year-old taxi owner at his Thohoyandou home early this morning (Wednesday).

The deceased, William Thononda, was parked in front of the gate of his house in Block F at around 08:30 when he was shot, reported Police spokesperson Col  Moatshe Ngoepe.

“According to reports a witness heard several gunshots and soon after saw a  Toyota Yaris with Gauteng registration numbers driving away from the crime scene at a high speed.”

The motive of the killing is not clear at this stage but taxi violence has not been ruled out, he added.

The SAPS Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lt-General Nneke Ledwaba condemns the ongoing taxi violence in the province. “You cannot resolve conflict by killing each other. These criminals will be hunted down and dealt with mercilessly and without compromise,” concluded General Ledwaba.

The suspects are still unknown and there is no arrest.
