Carjackers nabbed after car chase in Mankweng area

Three hijacking suspects believed to be on the way to commit a robbery at a business in the Mankweng policing precinct were arrested after a car chase, confirmed the police on Tuesday morning.

POLOKWANE – According to Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the police received a tip-off about a group of armed suspects who had hijacked a vehicle in the Tzaneen area and were en route to commit business robberies in and around Mentz and Ga-Shiloane in the Mankweng area.

Officers from the Mankweng Cluster Tracking Team and Crime Prevention members tracked the white Polo Playa and when they attempted to intercept the vehicle, the suspects sped off and a vehicle chase ensued until the police manage to stop them, said Ngoepe.

“Three suspects aged between 26 and 33 were apprehended and two unlicensed firearms and ammunition, the hijacked vehicle and two cellphones were recovered.”

These suspects may be linked to a series of trio crimes in the Mankweng and Tzaneen Clusters and will appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of suspected stolen properties, unlicensed firearms and ammunition.They will later appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on a charge of carjacking, Ngoepe added.

The Saps Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lt. General Nneke Ledwaba has congratulated the officers from the Mankweng Police and the Crime Intelligent Unit on a job well done.

“This arrest is an epitome to those criminals who are planning to commit any criminal activities in Limpopo to know that we are watching them and their arrest is eminent unless they stop these heinous acts, concluded General Ledwaba.
