POLOKWANE – The new approved increase for municipalities will be 6,84% and has taken effect in the current financial year, 2018/19, which started on 1 July. The proposed increased in electricity was 8,5%. Basic charges, however, have been increased
The new electricity tariffs will be as follows:
Domestic tariffs for prepaid and conventional, per tariff blocks c/kWh
• Block 1(0-50 kWh) is set at 90c per kWh.
• Block 2 (51-350 kWh) will be 112c per kWh.
• Block 3 (351-600 kWh is set at 165c per kWh.
• Block 4 ( more than 600 kWh) is set at 194c per kWh.
A basic charge of R87 per month is payable per household.
Commercial users, prepaid and conventional, will pay a basic charge of R485 per month.
The energy charge will be 170c per kWh and for industrial tariffs (more than 100 amps), a basic charge of R1 368 per month will be payable, while energy charge is set at 74c per Kwh.
Demand charges are set at R205 per kVA.
Industrial tariffs (less than 100 amps): Basic charge: R1 136 per month.
Energy charge:170c per kWh.
The municipality is going to gradually align the industrial tariffs to the benchmarks.
The tariff increase will be effective until 30 June 2019. It was earlier announced that the basic charge per month for households would be R86,80 per month for all residential properties.
For domestic use, per block consumed: from 1 July 2018 the earlier proposed tariffs would have been:
0-50 kWh – 90,05 c per kWh
51-350 – 112,84c per kWh
351 to 600 – 166,00 per kWh
>600 – 199,64c per kWh
