Local Indie-Folk pop band sets the tone

The band, 15OH5, an Indie-Folk pop band is a group of friends with a love for music.

POLOKWANE – They have recently been seen performing at more and more private functions as their music is something everyone loves.

The band members have deep roots in Polokwane with all of them being old scholars of Hoërskool Pietersburg.

“Polokwane is our home no matter where we stay we will always come back here,” Juanie Willemse told Review.

“If I have to describe our band I would say: We are a four member Indie-Folk Pop band from a small town called Polokwane trying to make it big by writing and performing songs filled with soul and heart that tell enchanting and relatable stories, masked with soothing and memorable melodies. Follow us on social media to see what we’re up to,” the band members, Emile Vermeulen, Juanie Willemse and Quinton Boucher agree.

Having matriculated at PHS in 2015, the three were merely all acquaintances while still at school. But it all changed when they discovered their talent and love for the same kind of music. According to Vermeulen they still rehearse at his house every second weekend due to limited venues available in Pretoria, where Vermeulen and Willemse live while studying music and publishing degrees. Boucher is a self-employed musician based in Polokwane.

Recently the band performed in Cape Town and they will perform at an international music festival in the Okavango, Botswana in August.
One of the band’s well known and first song is Temporary Tattoo. It forms part of a compilation album, that includes five of their own songs, recorded live at a venue in Polokwane. According to Boucher they still prefer their own music, of which the lyrics are penned down by Willemse.
