Following the fuel price increase of approximately 82 cents per litre that came into effect at the beginning of last month, another shock hit motorists when the fuel price was increased by another more than 22 cents per litre as from midnight on Tuesday.
Motorists rushed to filling stations in the city on Tuesday evening to fill up before the price increase, saving about R15 on a standard size tank.
Both grades of petrol, 93 and 95 octane, increased by 26 and 23 cents respectively, while 0,05% and 0,005% sulphur diesel saw a 26 cents and 24 cents per litre increase.
The price of illuminating paraffin and liquefied propane gas (LPG) went up by 22 cents per litre and 37 cents per kg respectively, having
a serious impact on residents using these commodities to provide some comfort from the chilly weather that was experienced lately.
The increases are attributable to a weakening rand against the US dollar and the increase of the price of crude oil.
