Makhado prison official (41) arrested for alleged rape of teenager

LIMPOPO – Police in Makhado have arrested a 41-year-old man for rape, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspect, attached to the Kutama Sinthumule Prison as a Custodial Officer, was arrested following an incident which occurred on Saturday, 23 June.

“It is alleged that a 19-year-old girl was at Madombidzha village when the suspect took out a firearm and fired two shots at her. He then forced her into his vehicle and drove to a local lodge in the Makhado area where he raped her,” Ngoepe explained.

The matter was later reported to the police and initial investigations began which led to the arrest of the suspect.

“During the arrest, an unlicensed firearm and six rounds of ammunition were recovered. The suspect has briefly appeared before the Louis Trichardt Magistrates Court and was denied bail,” Ngoepe added.

His cases were postponed to the 4 July 2018 for bail application and for further police investigations to take place.
