[LISTEN] Dept concerned over high volume of road deaths

This comes after several people lost their lives on Limpopo roads over the weekend

LIMPOPO – The possibly cause of most of these accidents includes reckless driving and speeding says Spokesperson Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala.

Breakdown of the weekend accidents:

In the Capricorn district two pedestrians died after being knocked down during separate incidents which occurred in the evening.

A 51-year-old man was knocked down by a bus along the R521 near Ga-Mongwane and another 38-year-old victim was knocked down by a sedan along the On R71 near Mentz village.

In the Mopani district five people died in three separate incidents.

A 38-year-old man died after he lost control of his vehicle and overturned along the R71 near Nkolobe lodge and a 58-year-old man died after his vehicle hit a tree along the D3840  at Ngobe village- Giyani.

An extra three people, a driver and two passengers, died after the vehicle they were traveling in overturned along the R71, near Jachtpad ,Mopani district.

In the Waterberg district a 45-year-old woman died along the N1 near Bokenhout after she lost control of her vehicle and side-swiped an oncoming vehicle and in the Vhembe district a woman (40) was killed after allegedly making an unsafe u-turn along the R578 near  Ha- Majozi.

“A further five people were also injured in this accident,” Moremi-Taueatsoala concludes.
