Family and friends remember Aunt Blossom

A loving and caring person who went the extra mile to help those in need, a strong pillar in church and her life build on faith - that is how family and friends will remember Vivica Aunt Blossom Klaasen (62).

POLOKWANE – The news of her sudden death last Wednesday, 20 June after a short sickbed came as a shock to the community as Aunt Blossom was known and loved by many people in Westenburg and surrounds. Family, friends and everyone who knew her had the opportunity to pay their last respects to Aunt Blossom during a memorial service at the St Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Westenburg on Saturday.

Father Sunny, who worked with Aunt Blossom at the Catholic Church for 10 years, said she was a woman of principle.

“She showed discipline and dedication but didn’t tolerate nonsense and she had the courage to always speak the truth,” he said.

Snowy Kennedy-Monyemoratho, Chairperson of the Limpopo Legislature Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa), said Aunt Blossom had dedicated her life to serving the community of Westenburg, especially in the religious fraternity.

“She was truly passionate about church work and conducted church services within our community whenever there was a bereavement. The community has lost a great woman, a dedicated servant of God, a hard worker and a loving mother. She will be dearly missed by the Westenburg community. She has run a good race and left a legacy,” Kennedy-Monyemoratho said.

Renee Kennedy, who was like a daughter to Aunt Blossom, said: “She took me as her daughter and my children as her grandchildren. She was my son Nathanael’s ‘grootmaakma’. She seldomly gave hugs but when she did, they were warm and big. I am going to miss her baking and knitting”.

Aunt Blossom leaves behind her mother, one sister, two brothers, her husband, children, grandchildren and a big circle of family and friends.

The family thanked everyone for their love and support. They thanked staff at the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital, Doves, St Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Westenburg, friends, neighbours and the Westenburg community at large.
