Pietersburg Comprehensive School’s (PCS) drum majorette squad has promised their educators and fellow learners that they will win a gold medal at the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (Samca) championships taking place in Oudtshoorn from today (Thursday) until 5 July.
The team left for Western Cape on Monday following a weeklong practising camp at the school. Their opponents will be the eight schools that won their various provincial competitions.
Squad leader Matseleng Rakgoale is confident that they will come back home with silverware. “We have just been crowned provincial champions and I don’t think we will falter the nationals, we want to be the 2018 champions. We have been there before and we know what to do now. Last year we did not do well but we gained valuable experience which we will use to our advantage,” Matseleng said.
Modikwa Mohlake, the squad’s head coach is also confident that the squad can do well against the opposition. “We had a good season. We won all the provincial tournaments. It is time to test ourselves against the best schools in the country and I think we can outshine them.”
