Accused in Maake taxi violence incident sentenced in high court

The Polokwane high court on Wednesday sentenced the two of the the three accused to an effective 25 years collective, said the police.

POLOKWANE – According to Police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, this sentence emanated from the incident of taxi violence at Maake Policing precinct in October 2016.  During the conflict between between the  two taxi associations (Letaba and The Oaks) one person died, said Ngoepe.

“Allegedly the accused were at Metz village taxi rank when they assaulted the victims, Karabo Ledimo and Moses Mitsileng. Metsileng later succumbed to his injuries in a hopsital. Police investigations commenced and  seven suspects were arrested for murder and attempted murder. As the investigations continued four suspects were arrested, however, only three were later directly linked to the crime scene,” explained Ngoepe.

Sheleng Sechube( 26) was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for attempted murder and 15 years imprisonment for murder.
Shai Ishmael (32) was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for attempted murder and the third accused did not plead guilty and his hearing was scheduled for 28 January 2019 at the Polokwane high court. The suspect is still out on R1 000 bail,” confirmed Ngoepe.
