POLOKWANE – According to police, Makwana’s sentence emanated from an incident which occurred on 6 June last year at about 09:00 in which police attended to a murder in Tafelkop Stadium View section outside Groblersdal around the mountains.
Const Maphure Manamela, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said police reacted to a tip-off from a shepherd after he discovered a body of a young girl, hacked with a sharp object and still dressed in her school uniform.
Manamela said the deceased was later identified as 15-year-old Dimakatso Tlaka from Tafelkop Stadium View section who was a Gr 10 learner at Boleu High School.
He added a manhunt immediately ensued for the suspect and Makwana, who was the boyfriend of the deceased and a Gr 9 learner at the same school, was arrested later the same day.
“The accused was additionally declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of Act 60 of 2000 Firearm Control Act,” explained Manamela.
Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Genl Jan Scheepers, applauded the dedication of Motetema detectives who ensured that justice prevailed and said this should serve as a deterrent to those who committed crime while under age as they will now see the long arm of the law would eventually catch up with them.
