Police have opened two inquest dockets following the death of two learners after a hostel in Motetema outside Groblersdal caught fire on Monday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that residents noticed a fire on the roof of Makaepea Primary School’s hostel where Muslim learners are boarded. They contacted the Police and fire brigade. During an investigation the bodies of a 6- and 15-year-old learner were found in the rooms.
It is reportedly unclear why the two learners were in the hostel as it was closed for the winter school holidays that started last week.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
