Male members of the Muslim community in the city flocked to venues in Polokwane to celebrate the conclusion of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan on Friday.
The three-day joyous holiday of Eid al-Fitr celebrates the conclusion of Ramadan, breaking the fast and marking the beginning of the tenth month on the Islamic calendar, known as Shawwal. Over 3 000 people gathered in Nirvana while others were expected at different venues across the province.
Last Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa wished all Muslims a spiritually fulfilling and blessed time of celebration.
In a statement issued by the Presidency, Ramaphosa was quoted to have said: “May Allah bless all our Muslim brothers and sisters and shower them with spiritual blessings, peace and success. May this holiday remind us to continue with all good deeds by lending a helping hand to those in need. Eid Mubarak.”
