Grade 4 learners at Northview Christian Academy put their entrepreneurial skills to the test during the school’s entrepreneur’s day on Friday.
The day was to afford learners an opportunity to sell goods and learn to manage their businesses and also raise funds for the school. According to the event organiser and Life skills educator, Danel Reynders, entrepreneur’s day falls within the scope of the Life Skills curriculum and 64 Grade 4 learners participated.
She indicated that the money paid to occupy a stall goes to the school while learners take all the profit made on the day. She said with the assistance of their parents, learners bought goods and paid for the stalls in order to sell to their fellow schoolmates. Reynders stated that they were trying to teach learners how to start and manage a business.
“Entrepreneur’s Day is normally for Grade 7 learners but we are trying to introduce it in other grades as well. Each grade will be allowed to participate in such activities once every term,” she explained, adding that learners chose their own goods then educators assist them to put a price and calculate the profit before hand.
Parents also came on board to monitor and support their children on the day and Reynders said she was delighted by their support and highly impressed with how the learners handled their business.
