LIMPOPO – Entrepreneur and Quivecom Networking Company founder, Bheki Shongwe, wanted to help change this and donated study guides to the value of R6 000 to Lefakgomo High School situated at Ga-Selepe in Atok on Sunday during the launch of the Intellectuals Football Club. Lefakgomo High School is one of the schools where matric results have drastically fallen last year.
Shongwe told CV that it takes a village to raise a child and that they need to be supported which is why he wanted to do his part to promote education.
“As the communities we have to support our learners in order for them to succeed in their education as it is the key to success,” said Shongwe, adding learners should invest more of their time on their studies so they can be able to pass.
“We believe the learners will utilise the study guides appropriately in order to improve the school’s matric results. It is crucial that we make education fashionable within our communities.”
He added as many learners come from poor backgrounds, they cannot afford to buy study materials which makes education more difficult for them.
Shongwe further urged businesses and individuals to come on board and support the struggling schools within their villages.
The donation facilitator and University of Limpopo Communication Practitioner, Johannes Selepe, said most learners around the village fail to gain university entrance due to poor matric results.
“The school performed poorly last year as only three learners managed to get good enough marks to gain university entry,” said Selepe.
“I never had an opportunity to attend a career exhibition during my school days to help me choose subjects suited to the career I wanted to pursue, this is something that shouldn’t happen to learners in rural communities.”
Lefakgomo High School teacher, Moses Malatji, said they are thankful for the kind gesture.
“As the school we believe the study materials will inject a sense of commitment and encourage our learners and teachers to improve our matric results this year,” said Malatji.
The study guides includes material for subjects such as mathematics, accounting, business studies, economics, geography and agriculture as well as physical and life sciences.
