Police launch investigation after a ‘Facebook lover’ disappears with woman’s vehicle

The South African Police Service urges residents to be cautions when engaging in 'love affairs' through social network platforms.

 

LIMPOPO – This warning comes after an alleged cyber crime syndicate robbed a woman of her motor vehicle on Sunday at a lifestyle shopping centre in Tzaneen, reported Police Spokesperson, Col  Moatshe Ngoepe.

“The victim from Mbekwana village in the Letsitele Policing area allegedly met the suspect on Facebook and had decided to meet him after being in communication the past three months. Subsequently the suspect, who had introduced himself as Brian Mabasa working at a Hospital in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, went to Mbekwana village to meet her, and they spent the weekend together until on Sunday when went to the centre and he disappeared with the victim’s green Toyota Tazz,” explained Ngoepe.

According to information on arrival at the shopping centre, the victim went to pharmacy, leaving the suspect with the vehicle at a parking bay. When she came back, the suspect and her vehicle was no where to be found and his cellphone was off. The victim then, immediately reported the matter to the Police who started with their initial investigations, added Ngoepe.

The suspect who uses different names is still on the run and the Police urges anyone with information which can lead to his arrest to contact Colonel Jabulani Ngobeni at 082 451 7169 or the Crime stop number 0860010111. Alternatively the crime line SMS 32211 or the nearest Police Station.
