Wheel Chair Wednesday launch

Wheelchair Wednesday is an initiative proudly driven by the Association for Persons with Disabilities (APD) Limpopo.

POLOKWANE – The objectives of this campaign is to provide custom fit wheelchairs to needy children or young people with disabilities, to create awareness relating to accessibility and challenges for wheelchair users and to raise much needed money for APD Limpopo.

The campaign started in 2013 with 10 participating companies and 17 wheelchairs handed over. In 2017 there were only seven participating companies with 10 wheelchairs handed over.

This year the challenge will look different. Where, in the past, each participating company had four hours on a Wednesday to compete in the challenge, all the companies will now compete on the same day.

The venue is not the companies’ buildings, but Mall of the North, here all the challenges will take place.

Entry fee is R6 000, but there are different sponsor categories, where sponsors can decide on how much they will donate.

They will then receive a Section 18A tax receipt, certificate of participation and media coverage.

Their sponsorship will include a custom fit wheelchair, and they will be able to personally hand over the wheelchairs. Custom fitted wheelchairs include extras like pillows, straps, posture support and are made according to the individual need.

The challenge include to spend at least four hours in a wheelchair, withdrawing money form an ATM, use a pay point at a shopping centre and getting in and out of your car.

Mall of the North is one company that took part in this challenge since the beginning and Mari Delport, Marketing Manager, says that it is something that are close to the hearts of all those at Mall of the North. We will invite all the sponsors to the mall to complete the challenge here,” she says.
