Strike at Voortrekker Hospital called off

The community of Mokopane are relieved that the two week strike at the Voortrekker Hospital came to an end and all is back to normal.

MOKOPANE – According to Neil Shikwambana, Department of Health Spokesperson, the strike was called off in its second week after the department and the workers’ representatives reached an agreement on the grievances raised by workers.

“The department outlined its plans to improve health care services not only in Voortrekker Hospital, but in all public health care facilities in the province.”

According to Shikwambana, the two parties agreed that issues that they could not reach an agreement on, would be be deferred to the bargaining chamber for further discussions and resolutions.

“These issues include issues such as rationalisation, payment of performance bonuses etc.”

Shikwambana said the strike is called off and all employees of the hospital have returned to their posts with effect from Thursday, 14 June.
