According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the children were found in a family member’s home in the Mogoboya Village.

The children left their home in Lephepane to visit their aunt who lived 15km away, having to pass a mountain to get there.

“Upon arriving at their aunt’s house, they proceeded to another family member’s house to watch TV and ended up sleeping there without informing the aunt and other family members,” he explained.

Ngoepe adds that the children were reported missing on Saturday, 9 June and police in Maake, outside Tzaneen, in conjunction with other role players, launched a search operation for them.

“The matter is now regarded as closed. Child safety should always come first to prevent these types of incidents from happening because you cannot allow young children to walk 15 kilometres alone. it is uncalled for and must not be allowed by any parent or guardian,” he concluded.
