Not very far north of South Africa there is a landlocked country named Zambia.

POLOKWANE – Zambia is situated on a high plateau in south-central Africa with its name originated from the Zambezi River.

English is the national, official language spoken in Zambia. Other spoken languages include Bemba, Lozi, Nyanja and Tonga.

Nshima is a food prepared from pounded white maize. It is part of nearly every Zambian meal.

Zambian cuisine also includes various types of stew, cooked vegetables and different types of beer. Dried fish and insects are also eaten.

Ifisashi is also a common food in Zambia. It is a type of stew, made with greens and peanuts and served with the nshima. Ifisashi can be vegetarian or cooked meat can be added to the stew.

Samp is also eaten in Zambia.

– The flag of Zambia was hoisted for the first time at midnight on 23 October 1964, symbolising patriotism and the nation’s natural resources.

– As of 1 January 2017, the population of Zambia was estimated to be 16,954,051 people.

– It is the 38th largest country in the world in terms of land area with 752,618 square kilometers (290,587 square miles).

– The network of protected areas in Zambia covers about 38% of the national territory. It is made up of 19 national park, plus other types of protected areas.

– The Zambian economy has historically been based on the copper mining industry. Zambia is one of the top ten producers of copper.

– The most popular sport in Zambia is football.
