Following the fuel price increase of approximately 82 cents per litre that came into effect yesterday (Wednesday), the fuel price of approximately R15,54 per litre is now the highest in history.
Motorists rushed to filling stations in the city on Tuesday evening to fill up before the price increase, saving about R50 on a standard size tank.
Both grades of petrol, 93 and 95 octane, increased by 82 cents, while 0,05% sulphur diesel saw a 85 cents per litre increase. The price of illuminating paraffin went up by 82 cents per litre and the maximum retail price of liquefied petroleum gas increased by
138 cents per kilogram.
The increases are attributable to a weakening rand against the US dollar and the increase of the price of crude oil.
