Road closure for Cosafa Cup, Africa Day street carnival

In preparation of the 18th edition of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup, the City of Stars will host a street carnival ahead of the launch on Friday, 25 May.

POLOKWANE – The cultural street carnival will also celebrate Africa Day, with the carnival starting at Olympic Towers in Biccard Street at 10:00 and proceeding to Hoërskool Pietersburg in Dorp Street.

Here the second part of the celebrations will commence in the form of the Africa Day address and Cosafa Cup launch.

For the next two weeks, residents can look forward to action-packed soccer matches in the City of Stars with the 18th edition of the Cosafa Cup.

Altogether 14 teams will take part in the regional showpiece competition from 27 May to 9 June.

According to Maila Kola, Spokesperson for the Department of Sport, the road will be closed for traffic during the cultural street carnival from 10:00 to 11:00.

“We will travel up Biccard Street towards Hospital Street and then up towards the school. The roads will be closed for traffic.”
