According to information received, at around 11:00 on Wednesday morning, all rescue teams searched the area in which Mashilo was last seen.  The Airwing was tasked to search the river and conduct a proper grid search and after 30 minutes, the aircrew confirmed that they spotted a man lying in the area of the river that matched the description of clothing given to them during the final tactical brief.

A decision was made to pick up a medic from the search group to be dropped at the patient to confirm Mashilo’s stability and after several minutes, the medic confirmed the man still had a faint pulse. He was then transported to Knobal Hospital.

“Mashilo was found near Prospect Village, a few kilometres from where he last seen. The medical emergency services team who were on standby, confirmed that even though he looked tired and disoriented, he was in a satisfactory condition without injuries,” Ngoepe said.

Provincial Commissioner, Lt. General Nneke Ledwaba, has commended this the operation team and other role players who participated without rest until the victim was found unharmed and alive.
