POLOKWANE – Being passionate about music from a young age himself, he explained he wants to help children experience the joy and fulfillment music can bring to ones life. Sammy joined Bet-Shalom Christian School in March and said everyone helped him feel at home and part of the family immediately.

“My love for music is unquestionable as is my dedication to inspire our youth to explore their musical abilities and passions. As the leading Christian private school in Polokwane, I am honoured to join and be part of the Bet-Shalom family. The school provides a loving Christian foundation for children and inspires the very best in them,” he said. As a child, Sammy had many dreams for his career, among others a pilot, engineer or a pastor.
“My father is a pastor and I think this inspired me to want to become one as well. Despite all of these career choices, however, deep down I have always wanted to become a musician.
“I had doubts about the financial stability a career as a musician would give me. I still wanted to positively impact people’s lives through music, so I decided to follow my heart and became a music teacher.”
As the head of the music department, Sammy shares his performing arts experience with the learners and offer piano and guitar lessons as part of the school’s extramural activities. “I chose the piano and guitar because they are quite easy to learn. It is also easier for me to compose music with the piano and guitar. I draw inspiration from gospel artist, pastor Don Moen. While growing up, I enjoyed listening to him, watching him sing and play piano was a real treat. I hoped to one day grow up to be just like him.
“When I was nine years old my mom bought a piano and insisted I learn to play. That is how my music career started.” He added learning to play an instrument has various benefits such as helping to increase children’s logical thinking abilities, build self-confidence, reduce stress, enhance hand-eye coordination and make them happy. It teaches people perseverance, discipline, responsibility and memory retention as well as boosting a person’s listening and reading abilities.
“Music can also help you make some lifelong friends who share your interests,” he said.
