Lim Tourism brings home silver from the African Travel Indaba

The Limpopo Tourism Agency’s (LTA) stand was announced as the silver winner in the Provincial Tourism Awards category of the Stand Awards at the recent African Travel Indaba in Durban.

POLOKWANE – The Africa Travel Indaba is one of the largest tourism events on the African calendar and showcases a wide variety of the best of South Africa’s tourism products which attracts international buyers as well as media from across the world.

LTA managed to claim the award due to the careful attention they paid to what Limpopo represents, bringing together the different cultures which makes the province what it is.

With pride, the exhibitors could be seen donning their colourful traditional attire, setting themselves apart from the other provinces and thus bringing a taste of Limpopo to the indaba.

To further reiterate their point of pride in the heritage and cultures in Limpopo, a bowl of mopani worms was made available to all who visited the stand to have a taste and ask more questions about the different cultures in the province.

The design of the stand was full of colours and patterns that have come to be associated with the VaTsonga, BaPedi and VhaVenda cultures that dominate Limpopo.

It sent a clear message that Limpopo truly is a unique heritage and culture destination and the rest of the country and the world as whole need to pay closer attention to it.

Through the three days of the tourism indaba, the Limpopo stand was one of the busiest stands with people coming to the stand for appointments as well as walk-in inquiries that were created by curiosity for people to find out more about this colourful, culturally-inspired stand.

Exhibitors were encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunity the indaba brings to network and create connections with local and international buyers who will meet exhibitors with the objective of making business for the province.

LTA CEO, Nomasonto Ndlovu, said: “We won a silver award for the best stand, it came as a pleasant surprise. We were simply doing our work, representing Limpopo’s vast culture and heritage, and we got an accolade which means we are doing something right.

“Do we want to be bigger next year? Yes, of course because now we see that we can win. Let’s win the platinum prize next year. Remember, as different provinces and destinations, we are working with different budgets I can’t want what my neighbour has, I have to be efficient and cost effective. What we are most excited about is that we managed to create excitement about Limpopo, which is the only thing I want.

“The amount of people who came to the stand and their interest shows us that as Limpopo we are doing the right things and people are taking notice.”
