Surprise Mom with a homemade Mother’s Day card

Review spoke to Adri Venter, a teacher by profession, to find out what the most simplest, yet heartwarming, ways are to convey love and appreciation for your mom on Mother's Day.

POLOKWANE – “Mother’s Day for me remains one of the most special days of the year where mothers, myself included, are showered with love, appreciation and gifts. In many ways as a preschool teacher I have come to realise the importance and significance Mother’s Day cards have. Mothers still keep cards made for them by their children at their offices or at home on the fridge as very special and heartfelt keepsakes,” she said.

Adri shared some easy tips with Review to make a super special card for mom this Mother’s Day.

You will need:

• 4 different coloured A4 thick paper, one folded in half. The colour is entirely up to you, but the brighter the better.

• Scissors.

• Pen.

• Ruler.

• Glue.

• Coloured glitter pens.

• Coloured marking pens.

• Colourful ribbon.

Instructions:

• In different sizes, preferably hearts, cut the leftover A4 paper.

• Take some glue and on the folded thick paper, paste the hearts in desired places on it. To give the hearts some volume paste, layers of the different coloured hearts on top of one another. You can always outline the shape of the hearts with the coloured pens. Remember to leave space to write ‘I love you mom’ on the card.

• Decorate the remainder of the card with the coloured pens or glitter glue pens.

• On the inside, cut one big heart and fold into half and paste in the middle of the card. Ensure that two corners of the heart are stuck on each side of the card. This will give the card more volume when opened.

• Write your special message on the inside of the card, also inside the heart, and decorate as desired.

• To make your mom’s day even more special, treat her to breakfast in bed.
