Police have launched a manhunt for six armed suspects who broke into and robbed an unknown amount of cash from the safe at a satellite office of the Blouberg Local Municipality at Harriswish in Matlala on Tuesday morning.
Maphure Manamela from the Provincial Police Media Centre indicated that two security guards had noticed a silver Mercedes-Benz driving past the building several times before coming to a standstill. When the guards approached the vehicle they were confronted by six suspects who immediately disarmed them.
She added that they took the cell phones of both guards and tied them up before breaking open the front door. Manamela said while some of the suspects kept guard outside others used a grinder to open the safe. The incident lasted several hours before the suspects managed to open the safe and then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.
No-one was injured during the incident. Anyone with information can contact investigating officer Rufus Ledwaba on 072 5810526 or report to the nearest Police station.
