Affiliates of the Public Servants Association of South Africa (PSA) as well as National Health Education and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) in Limpopo gathered outside the Office of the Premier and Provincial Treasury last Friday to picket against alleged poor wages.
Members are demanding wage increases of 12% for level one, 11% for level 8 to 10 employees and 10% for level 11 to 12 employees, it was learnt. PSA Provincial Liaison Officer, Lawrence Muvhango indicated that Government had been served with a 30 day notice of intent to embark on industrial action following the collapse of the wage negotiations which started in October 2017.
“We tabled our demands as far back as October 2017 with the aim that we would see salary increases being implemented by 1 April. The wage dispute was declared at the Bargaining Council and we plan to strike if our demands for a 10% wage increase are not met,” Muvhango said.
Yesterday (Wednesday) Muvhango told Polokwane Observer that the picket has been suspended until further notice.
“We decided to put the picket on hold as we await instruction from our national members.”
