Finally it seems as if the ruling party in the province could be getting off the ground with preparations for an elective conference where a leadership structure has to be installed. The majority of branches of the African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo reportedly declared their readiness for the big event, and in some instances regional elective conferences, during Regional General Councils (RGCs) on Sunday.
According to information the state of readiness was on the agendas of all RGCs on the weekend. Two regions, that of Peter Mokaba and Waterberg, still have to go to elective conferences that are expected to take place before the provincial elective conference as their mandates have run out months ago.
The cut-off date for all conferences has apparently been set for 31 May, but according to sources within the party extensions would have to be requested as it didn’t seem as if branches would have enough time to conclude internal processes.
In the meantime a source within the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the ANC alluded to the fact that the PEC had resolved that the provincial conference would be held towards the end of June.
Sources in the party pointed at the fact that the Secretary General of the ANC still had to sign off the audit reports from Limpopo to give a go-ahead for processes to take its course.
In Peter Mokaba Region the leadership of structures met during a mid-morning RGC at Bolivia Estate in Polokwane on Sunday to voice general consensus that branches were ready for both the regional and provincial conferences, according to Peter Mokaba Regional Secretary Eugene Masete.
ANC Limpopo spokesperson Aluwani Netsianda couldn’t be reached at the time of going to press.
In a media release ANC Provincial Secretary Nocks Seabi on behalf of the provincial executive, following its meeting on Monday stated that the PEC has noted reports following the special RGCs of Sunday about branches expressing their readiness for the provincial conference and the regional conferences of both Peter Mokaba and Waterberg Regions. He said the PEC has further noted that the bulk of the work had been done towards preparations for the conferences and that the province satisfied the majority of the requirements of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to host the conferences. While 254 out of 563 branches were due to hold their Bi-Annual General Meetings (BAGMs), work would commence from this weekend but would await the necessary organisational processes to commence with the nominating Branch General Meetings (BGMs), Seabi further stated. “At present only 274 branches are in good standing out of the required conference threshhold of 396 branches,” he added.
“The PEC thus resolved to request the NEC for permission to hold the conferences within the month of June 2018 whilst simultaneously working hard to ensure conferences sit within the NEC prescribed timeframes. The revised conference road maps will be duly communicated to relevant structures.”
