POLOKWANE – Westenburg’s oldest resident, Sara Swarts (104) applauded the Westenburg V-Dub Crew for their hard work and dedication to bring change in the community.
Swarts welcomed the crew with a smile into her home when they delivered a food parcel to her on Saturday.
She was one of 50 families who received food parcels from the crew.
This is an annual project by the Westenburg V-Dub Crew, where they give back to the community.
The crew asked the high and primary schools in Westenburg to help them identify families in need.
Towards the end of last year the crew held a charity bash and some of the money raised during the bash was used for the food parcels.
Each member also contributed towards the project. Sponsors came onboard and the community helped in the quest to make a difference.
There was a variety of goods in the food parcels which included non-perishable foods like rice, sugar, maize meal, oil, tin food, tea and many more. The parcel also had milk, vegetables and some snacks.
Ella Peterson (70) said it was good to know that there were young men in the community who care about the elderly.
“We have to survive on our pension, which is not a lot so this donation will go a long way. Thank you Westenburg V-Dub Crew, you are angels sent from above. Keep up with the good work you are doing in our community.”
Sandra Anderson (70) agreed with Peterson that the crew was making a huge difference in the Westenburg community.
“You enrich our community through your hard work and dedication and it is not going unseen. We appreciate each and every one of you young men. Do not get tired in doing what you are doing.”
The crew thanked each person who contributed towards the initiative as the project would not have been a reality if it was not for their help.
“We would like to say a special thank you to our sponsors; Goldwagen, Vertex Drills, Kamo Joe, Fishaways Library Gardens, Mash and Tyre, Total Flora Park, BB Auto, Josty Wagen Auto Body, M&R Auto Body (Melvin Stevens), Steps Supermarket, Standard Bank, and Team Car Spares.
“We would also like to thank, Rehana ‘Rola’ Ferris who donated all the vegetables,” said Melvin Stevens, acting president of the Westenburg V-Dub Crew, on behalf of the crew.
