Save the Children promote reading and writing at local schools
Save The Children, and officials from the Department of Education recently commemorated World Book Day with a visit to Greenside Primary School to promote reading and writing among children.
POLOKWANE – The initiative covered 12 schools that are part of Save the Children Projects.
Save the Children has one of the programmes that has been implemented in Limpopo, called Thuto ke lefa, an education project that focuses on supporting children, educators, Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres and primary schools.

Twelve children were selected in 12 of the primary schools that they are working with, who competed in activities that promote reading and writing.
All the activities that were done on the day were in line with the curriculum of the department, to ensure that they do not work outside of the scope that is taught to the children at the schools.
The competitions focused on term one activities that were done at schools with regard to reading and writing also targeting areas like solving sums and putting together puzzles. The winning children in each category walked away with prizes including laptops, books and stationery.
In the first competition, Tebogo Teffu from Doornspruit Primary School, Paballo Moloto from Manchimudi Primary School and Princess Kubushi from Maphuto Primary School achieved the first three spots respectively.
In the second competition Raesetsa Legodi from Matshelane Primary School, Motlatso Fisher from Boiketlo Primary School and Makgwarela Moloto from Biko Park Primary School took the honours.
Sakhile Modiba from Matshelane Primary School, Mahlatse Machakhidi from Phofu Primary School and Haleluya Dijourney from Boiketlo Primary School took the honours in the third competition.
