Car hijacking syndicate cracked in Giyani

Police followed a tip off after a truck was recently hijacked in Mokopane.

LIMPOPO – Members of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit in conjunction with the Giyani Detectives arrested four suspects over the weekend in connection with a possible car hijacking syndicate.

The arrest follows the hijacking of a new Hino tipper truck in the Gilead policing area, outside Mokopane.

According to information, three suspects stopped the truck, pointed the driver with a firearm and tied him up. They then drove in the direction of Giyani.

“The police received information about three suspects who were in possession of a suspected stolen vehicle in the Giyani area and followed it. Three suspects were then arrested and further investigations led police to a farm outside Giyani where the hijacked tipper truck was found and the fourth suspect was nabbed,” explained police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The following items were seized during the arrest:

“All the four suspects have briefly appeared before the Giyani Magistrates Court and their case was postponed to 9 May 2018 for formal bail application and further police investigations.

Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has commended these members for the coordinated manner in which this operation was performed.

Police investigations still continue.
