Bogus Home Affairs official sentenced in Pretoria High Court

LIMPOPO – Mashaka (38) appeared before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on 23 April 2018 for fraud and corruption charges and pleaded guilty on both charges.

Provincial Hawks spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke says Mashaka was sentenced to R30 000 or 30 months imprisonment.

“Between 2016 and 2018, Mashaka masqueraded as a Home Affairs official stationed at Pretoria Head Office and assisted illegal immigrants to get fraudulent work permits and to extend the existing ones in exchange of money ranging from R1 000,” Maluleke explained.

On 23 January 2018, Mashaka was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Unit during an operation that was aimed at addressing corruption at border posts.

“Mashaka is still in custody for another similar charges which she allegedly committed in Mokopane and will appear before court on 2 May 2018,” he concluded.
