Urgent water restrictions needed in Mogalakwena, says DA

The DA is demanding that urgent water restrictions be implemented in Mogalakwena as the area has been experiencing serious water issues the past few months.

MOKOPANE – DA Councillors, Yolande Coetzee and Korny Dekker, said the water problems are not managed properly by the Departement of Water Affairs, Lepelle Northern Water and the Mogalakwena Municipality.

“Continued water interruptions and low pressure have been experienced regularly. It is reported almost every day that the reservoirs are empty. Residents have been without water for the past two weekends because Lepelle Northern Water had to clean the reservoirs. Numerous meetings with the municipality have been held in this regard but still no improvements have been made.”

Coetzee said communities are becoming angry and frustrated with the situation and businesses are losingrevenue as they are forced to close every time they can’t supply water to workers and the public who use their facilities.

“This is becoming a serious burden on the community and urgent answers are needed to this problem. The municipality has the obligation to inform residents of the situation and explain their plans to solve this issue but it seems the municipality is failing at this. This situation is unacceptable and must be attended to. Urgent intervention is needed and the DA will keep on fighting for residents’ rights to basic service delivery.”

Comment had not yet been received from Mogalakwena Municipality by the time of going to print.
