Drug syndicate running along the N1 cracked by Limpopo police

Four suspects were arrested and drugs worth R300 000 were confiscated.

LIMPOPO – According to police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the mushrooming of drugs in Limpopo remains one of the main contributing factors to serious and violent crimes and in a concerted effort to eradicate this, an intelligent led joint operation, composed of various police units, continue to yield positive and meaningful results.

Four suspects between the ages of 25 and 33-years-old were arrested in the Bela-Bela and Modimolle policing areas for dealing in drugs and possession of drugs.

The suspects were dealing drugs along the N1 South between Pienaarsriver and Bela-Bela as well as near the Kranskop plaza, outside Modimolle.

“The syndicate was intercepted and the suspects cars were pulled off the road while en-route to deal and supply the drugs in various areas in Limpopo,” Ngoepe explained.

During the operation, 39 balls of nyaope (each containing 850 sachets, with the estimated street value of over R300 000) were confiscated by police.

The suspects will appear before the Bela-Bela and Modimolle Magistrate Courts respectively, soon.

Meanwhile, Ngoepe says 16 suspects between the ages of 23 and 46-years-old were arrested in Polokwane, Lepahalale, Mahwelereng, Giyani, Makhado, Mankweng, and Tzaneen.

The suspects were arrested for possession of drugs.

The following drugs were recovered during this operation:
– 212 sachets of nyaope.
– Four packets of rock.
– 12 packets of dagga.
– 80  small plastic bags of nyaope.
– 1 457g of dagga.
– 22.753 kg of dagga plants.
– 85 dagga plants.

“The arrested suspects will appear before different Magistrate Courts soon,” Ngoepe concluded.
