According to police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the Thohoyandou High Court sentenced Magwaba to an effective three life sentences plus 48 years imprisonment for a series of rapes and robberies which occurred during 2009 and 2013 respectively.

He was sentenced to the following:

“The court heard that during November 2009, Magwaba broke into the house of a 56-year-old woman, threatened her with a knife, raped her and robbed her of R500 cash,” Ngoepe explained.

In another incident, Magwaba threatened a 68-year-old woman who was on her way home from church, threatened her with a knife, raped her and robbed her of R1 000 cash.

“Continuing with his reign of terror, Magwaba attacked a woman, her domestic worker and the woman’s children at a church in Tohoyandou. He stabbed the woman, raped her and the domestic worker in a church and robbed them of their valuables.”

Provincial Commissioner, Lt. General Nneke Ledwaba, has applauded the Thohoyandou Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit members, who worked so hard to ensure that Magwaba was brought to book.

“This is a milestone achievement in the fight against rape in Limpopo and we are determined to clean all the affected areas of any acts of criminality especially rapes. We urge communties to continue supporting police by giving quality and reliable information at all time,” concluded General Ledwaba.
