Mayaze Chilli sauce for the soul

Wanting to share his delicious chilli sauce with others, and making a living in the process, motivated Given Masiye to bottle and market his chilli sauce to penetrate the market with his own niche product.

POLOKWANE – “The name of my chilli sauce is Mayaze Chilli and it is lovingly made from hand-picked chilli peppers and other natural ingredients. My colleagues and I use no artificial flavouring, colouring or preservatives so every drop of Mayaze Chilli is wholesome and delicious. Your granny would approve!” Masiye said with a smile.

The name of the sauce, Masiye explained, stems from his totem/clan name.

He added he chose to name his products after his clan as he strongly believes it was his ancestors who have seen him through life and who have blessed him with such talent.

“Mayaze Chilli was founded at the beginning of this year but I first thought of the idea around June last year. I decided to make this product because of the high number of fast food outlets in almost every town, even in rural areas. Most of these fast food outlets use chilli sauces with their products and I wanted to break into the market with my own chilli sauce, so doing inspiring other entrepreneurs that they can do the same. There are several people who help me during the making process of the sauce which means I am able to create employment opportunities and contribute to economic growth in the province.”

The sauce, Masiye explained, can be enjoyed with a variety of dishes such as chicken, beef, mince and lamb. It can also be used to make the famous chakalaka which is popular at chisanyamas and braai meals.
