‘Say no to drugs,’ says Westenburg V-Dub crew

To help keep the youth away from substance abuse, the Westenburg V-Dub Crew have introduced an anti-drug campaign in the city.

POLOKWANE – The crew consists of 26 members and they have collaborated with three winners from last years’ Miss V-Dub Beauty Pageant, Milandré Boom (second princess), Meaqcalah Louw (Miss V-Dub) and Mary-Ann Da Gama (first princess) to spearhead the campaign.

Westenburg V-Dub President, Conroe Ross, told BONUS the crew had the campaign in the pipeline for a while and managed to finally launch it in March.

“Many teenagers are exposed to drugs and substance abuse. This abuse in turn affect the younger generation who sees their families involved with substance abuse, creating a vicious cycle. Through this campaign we as the Westenburg V-Dub Crew want to help create awareness and help communities change for the better as substance abuse will no longer destroy homes, families, relationships and lives,” Conroe said, adding they will use the campaign to create awareness for the rest of the year.

“Thus far we have received overwhelmingly positive support from the community, this gives us the courage to continue standing up and speaking out about substance abuse in the community.”

The Westenburg V-Dub Crew has done several projects in and around the city the past few years, with these project benefiting the community in various ways.

Among the projects done by the crew is a school shoe and food run, as well as entertainment and car shows where they raise money for impoverished families and the elderly.

“When you run a campaign, never say you can’t do something if you haven’t even tried in the first place. Be the change you want to see,” Conroe advised.

“With regard to substance abuse, don’t say ‘It’ll never happen to my child’ as even the most well-behaved and top achiever can fall prey to the abuse. Investigate and find out if your child uses drugs, and if they do, help them kick these destructive habits.”

Aside from the crew’s recent campaign against drug abuse at the Seshego Stadium, they plan to visit schools in and around the city to motivate and encourage learners to stay away from substance abuse.
