The 42-year-old wife of a local businessperson and security company owner who was shot and killed in cold blood in front of his 11-year-old son at his home in Flora Park in February is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in connection with the murder today (Thursday).
Another suspect, Simon Ramela appeared in connection with the case in the same court last Thursday and was also expected to appear yesterday (Wednesday) for the second time.
Provincial Police Corporate Communications Head Motlafela Mojapelo indicated that a team of Polokwane detectives assisted by the Provincial Tracking Team followed up information received which led to a sting operation in Lephalale last Tuesday night during which Ramela, also a businessperson, was arrested in connection with the murder.
Mojapelo said information on Ramela’s arrest was embargoed until Tuesday to enable the operatives to follow-up on more crucial information which then led to the apprehension of the alleged girlfriend of one of the conspirators, the victim’s widow.
She was nabbed at her home in Flora Park, according to Mojapelo.
Mojapelo said a pistol with ten live rounds of ammunition and two vehicles were confiscated during the arrests.
He recalled what happened on 20 February at the victim’s house when his son, waiting at the gate to go to school at around 07:10, was confronted by three suspects who allegedly pushed him into the house where they encountered the domestic worker and then pushed both into the room where the victim already was.
Without saying a word they allegedly shot him several times in front of his son and the domestic worker before fleeing the scene.
Police are also calling on Victor Mashakeng to avail himself at any Police station as it is believed he will be able to assist in the investigation.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mashakeng can contact officers Linkie Mathebula on 064 756 8218 or Richard Boshomane on 079 894 5501.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba commended members involved in the breakthrough and urged community members to continue providing valuable information in an effort to assist Police in further investigations into the case.
