Nakedi Mathebula (42), wife of local businessman and Thaba Protection Services owner William Mathebula, and a second suspect, Simon Ramela, who were arrested in connection with the alleged murder of her husband in February this year, are expected back in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Friday) after the case against them was postponed earlier today.
Ramela has made his first court appearance last Thursday after he was arrested in Lephalale two days earlier.
Provincial Police Corporate Communications Head Motlafela Mojapelo indicated that a team of Polokwane detectives, assisted by the Provincial Tracking Team, followed up on information received which led to a sting operation in Lephalale last Tuesday night. During the operation Ramela, also a businessperson, was arrested. Intense investigations then led Police to Mathebula’s house in Flora Park where she was apprehended on Tuesday, it was learnt.
A pistol with ten live rounds of ammunition and two vehicles were confiscated during the arrests, Mojapelo stated.
William Mathebula was shot and killed in cold blood on 20 February this year. Mojapelo said Mathebula’s son was waiting at the gate to go to school at around 07:10 when confronted by three suspects who allegedly pushed him into the house where they encountered the domestic worker and then pushed both into a room with the victim. Without saying a word they allegedly shot him several times in front of his son and the domestic worker before fleeing the scene, he said.
Police are also calling on Victor Mashakeng to avail himself at any Police station as it is believed he will be able to assist in the investigation. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mashakeng can contact investigating officers Linkie Mathebula on 064 756 8218 or Richard Boshomane on 079 894 5501.
