Consumers in the city may experience low pressure and water shortages from today (Thursday) due to challenges experienced at the Olifantspoort Water Plant.
Communications and Marketing Manager of Polokwane Municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo reported earlier this morning that Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) has notified the municipality that the Olifantspoort Water Plant is operating at low capacity due to insufficient raw water at the source. “It is expected to take between two to three days before the plant could get back to normal operation as water from the sources takes long to reach the plant,” Mothapo said.
“According to the notice the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has reduced dam outflows due to the amount of rain that were received recently. LNW is dealing with the matter and has engaged DWS on increasing outflow back to normal.” Mothapo added.
Mothapo urged consumers to take this notice seriously and to use water cautiously to ensure that reservoirs are not badly affected and advised consumers to report water shortages on 015 290 2376 or 015 296 2629. “LNW Spokesperson Simon Mpamonyane may also be contacted on 082 905 1830 for further information,” Mothapo concluded.
