Athletes and swimming enthusiasts can expect an eventful and memorable 2018 Level 2 Northern Region swimming gala at the Polokwane municipal swimming pool from Saturday until Monday. The assurance was given by Vice President of Limpopo Aquatics and competition manager for provincial swimming events, Rob Anderson.
Speaking at the federation ‘s final inspection of the venue today(Thursday), Anderson said participants representing 51 swimming clubs from Gauteng, North-West, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Swaziland are expected in the province tomorrow. “The registration will take place on Friday at the venue and the event will start on Saturday. We are expecting 340 swimmers in the province and that is huge. It is a privilege for us to host an event of this magnitude and we are hoping for a fantastic event and we wish all the swimmers all the best at the event,” Anderson said.
He also added that they are happy with the conditions at the swimming pool. “The pool is in good condition and today we were just cleaning the water as part of the preparations. We also fixed the dilapidated starting blocks, gully covers and put new numbers in the starting blocks. We had to fix all these things because the pool was not in good condition nor of the standard to host such events,” added Anderson.
This will be the second time the federation plays host to a national event. It also presented the South Africa National schools championships in April last year where 470 swimmers from across the country participated.
