[TAKE NOTE] Heavy traffic expected on the N1 today, says Transport dept

POLOKWANE – As the ZCC Moria pilgrimage comes to an end, the Department of Transport say they are expecting high traffic volumes on the R71, R101 as well as the N1.

Spokesperson for the department, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala says busses and mini bus taxis were asked to leave Moria on Sunday evening while private vehicles would leave early hours of this morning.

 “As a result, the roads will be congested, particularly on the R71. We have also noted weather conditions and are asking motorists to keep a safe following distance and trust that our traffic officials will ensure traffic flow on the roads,” he said.Â
Moremi-Taueatsoala says delays are expected near the Shell Ultra City on the N1 due to roadworks, but traffic officials have been deployed to the area.
“The team, consisting of more than 1000 Provincial Traffic officers, the National Traffic Police and South African Police Service, will be working 24 hours. Motorists are advised to be careful of stray animals on the Gilead road, N11 to Groblersbridge and R37 to Burgersfort including D19 (Matlala Road),” he concluded.
