Premier Stan Mathabatha tabled the budget vote for his office at the legislative chamber on Tuesday where he revealed that by the end of February, the office had spent 89% of its allocated budget of R405 million for the 2017/18 financial year as compared to 87% spent on the final budget of R379,7 million at the same time in the previous financial year.
The Office of the Premier is allocated a budget of R420,6 million for the 2018/19 financial year and Mathabatha highlighted that the medium term estimates for 2019/20 and 2020/11 financial years are R437,2 million and R461,3 respectively.
Payments and estimates by programme
Administration duties are expected to cost the Office of the Premier R164 530, institutional support R156 319 while policy and governance costs are estimated at R99 831 for the 2018/19 medium term which add up to R420 680. The medium-term budget for compensation of employees is estimated at R300 576 while goods and services are likely to cost R112 781.
Administration support programmes
The Premier support programme is estimated to cost R17 168 by mid-term, Executive Council support programme R10 373, Director General R25 306, financial management R100 578 and administration support programme is likely to cost R11 105. The total estimated cost for aforementioned programmes stand at R164 530.
Institutional support programmes one and two
The strategic human resource programme is estimated to cost R71 984 by 2018/19 mid-term, Information Communication Technology R30 938, legal services R18 088, communication services R23 113 while institution development support programme is estimated to cost R12 196 bringing the total estimated cost for institutional support programme one by mid-term to R156 319 and R156 319 for institutional support programme two.
Policy and governance
Intergovernmental relations programme receives a budget of R17 130 for mid-term, provincial policy management R50 830, programme support policy and governance
R12 377 and special programmes are expected to cost R19 494 by mid-term bringing the total budget to R99 831.
Conclusion
Mathabatha said his office would continue to work hand-in-hand with the Legislature and cooperate fully with its suggestions and oversight duties.
He thanked the Speakership, chairpersons of all committees and members of the house for their continuous advice.
He singled out portfolio committees such as Public Administration, Quality of Life and Status of Women, Youth and Disability, Standing Committee on Public Accounts for their relentless work and oversight.
