“Compared to previous years, we are ready for whatever might come our way this year. The new ambulances came at just the right time and we have incorporated a number of changes,” she said.

The Department will be focusing on hospitals and they have designated doctors ready to assist on 24-hour basis, assuring that the doctors will be close-by whenever needed.

Ramathuba explained that this will prevent congestion at certain health care centers.

“The issue of intensive care unit beds (ICU) have also been addressed and we will be pooling beds together at different hospitals in Bela Bela, Mokopane, Polokwane and Lebowakgomo. This will be controlled by the Deputy Director General. We will even take patients to private care if needed and we promised ourselves that no one will die because we can not offer them an ICU bed. We also have a disaster bus ready and an aeromedical system.”

Ramathuba further encouraged motorists to be safe on the roads and enjoy the weekend.
