One dead following attempted cash-in-transit heist in Jane Furse

One suspect was shot dead during a shootout with security officers and two others were seriously injured.

LIMPOPO – A dedicated task team are still searching for a group of armed suspects following a shootout between security officers and the suspects during an attempted cash-in-transit heist in the Diphagane village, Jane Furse, near Lebowakgomo on Sunday, 25 March.

According to police spokepserson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the cash-in-transit security officers were on their way to fix ATMs in and around the Jane Furse area when they were overtaken by a silver Toyota Corolla with three occupants inside. The suspects ordered them to stop and began firing their rifles at the officers.

“The Security Officers retaliated and one suspect was fatally wounded and the other two were seriously injured.Their accomplices loaded them into their get-away car before fleeing the scene with a white Audi (CD 27 ZG GP),” he explained.

Police were notified and reacted swiftly and the following items were recovered at the scene:
-One 9 mm pistol and an AK47 rifle

– Cash.
– A Toyota Corrolla which was allegedly robbed earlier this month in the Tubatse policing area, outside Burgersfort.

Ngoepe says a manhunt for the suspects immediately ensued and the get-away Audi was found abandoned a distance away from the crime scene.

“The suspects didn’t get away with the money and no arrests have been made as yet.”

Ngoepe urged anyone with information which can lead to the arrest of the suspects, to contact Captain Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501; the crime stop number 0860010111; the crime line sms 32211 or the nearest police station.

“Anyone who sees people with gunshot wounds visiting any hospital or any health facility in the province is urged to contact the police via the above information,” he concluded.
